Who is online therapy for?
Online therapy sessions are a great option for all kinds of people, but can be a particularly good fit for those who…
Prefer to speak from home, in a familiar environment.
Find commuting and new spaces to be stressful or overwhelming.
Are neurodivergent, anxious, or simply feel safer behind a screen.
Want continuity of support around work, study, parenting, or health needs.
Live in a rural area where in-person supports are limited.
Online therapy (also called telehealth counselling) allows us to meet face-to-face via secure video call, from the privacy of your own space. This format became much more common during the Covid-19 pandemic, and has since stuck around as a preferred means of therapeutic contact for many therapists and clients alike.
It’s the same depth of work as in-person counselling – just without the travel, waiting room, or pressure to rush across town.
Some people choose online counselling as their main way of working. Others use it alongside email therapy.
We can talk together about what feels most sustainable for you.
What sessions are like.
Online sessions are 50 minutes long. Prior to our session, I send you an invite to a secure telehealth video call scheduled to start at our appointment time. You do not have to download anything - just click “Join Call” or follow the link in the invite email. When it’s time for our session to start, I’ll admit you to the online meeting space.
I host sessions from my home office, which is a quiet, enclosed space that ensures our kōrero are private. You’re welcome to have your camera on or off, sit with a cup of tea, set yourself up with a blanket, use fidget toys, or take notes. The aim is to create a comfortable space (both physical and virtual) for you to think, feel, and speak freely without performance.
My style is warm, thoughtful, and curious. I won’t push you to share more than you’re ready for, and I’ll always be honest with you about what I’m noticing.
A few minutes before our session is due to end, I will gently draw your attention to the time so that we can begin to wrap up our time together safely, allowing you to feel grounded and contained after our call.
I charge $115 per session, and an invoice will be sent to you via email after each one.
Getting started.
If you’re interested in beginning your online therapy journey with me, or even have questions about whether it might be a good fit for your needs, you can contact me by either…
From there, I’ll reply answering your questions and providing next steps if you’re keen to proceed.

Online therapy absolutely can be as effective as in-person therapy. Whether or not it’s a good fit for you depends largely on your preferences.
If you’re someone who feels comfortable communicating through video call, and being in your own space for the therapeutic process, then online counselling can be both a convenient and highly effective option.
-
All you need is the following:
A device with internet capability and with a camera (if you like).
A stable internet connection.
A private space where you can be alone for the duration of our session.
You might also like to use headphones as this helps some people feel more contained and focused, but they’re not essential.
-
From my end, yes - I ensure what we have talked about remains confidential, just like I would for any other therapy session.
From your end, because you’re in your home, It is up to you to make sure that you set yourself up in a private space where you are unlikely to be interrupted ofr the duration of our session.
-
If we lose connection, I’ll wait a few minutes for you to re-join. If we can’t reconnect, I’ll contact you by email or text to reschedule or continue in another format. Technical issues won’t “use up” your session unfairly.

I charge $115 NZD per 50 minute session.

Yes, this is something I am trialing. and looking to offer formally in time.
If you are interested in online sessions but find speaking aloud difficult, there is the possibility for real-time web chat therapy as an alternative.
You will need to let me know this is what you’re after in your initial email, as it’s currently still in development as an offering.

I am not a crisis counsellor, and am not available outside of our scheduled session time to provide immediate support if you’re unsafe or distressed.
If you are feeling unsafe outside of our session times, contact your local crisis line or emergency service.
If you are experiencing urgent mental health distress but are unsure what supports may be available to you, you can visit http://findahelpline.com for a comprehensive list of helplines categorised by country.
-
You can end or pause the work at any time, ideally with notice so we can have a closing session. The final session is often a chance to consolidate your progress, say goodbye meaningfully, and ensure a sense of completion.

Unfortunately, I am not able to provide online therapy to people outside of NZ at this time.
